The Dean of ALBA in “The World in 2017” Athens Gala Dinner

The Dean of ALBA Graduate Business School at The American College of Greece was one of the speakers of the successful event The World in 2017 Athens Gala Dinner organized by The Economist.

The event, which took place on Friday, January 27 at the Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel, opened with the executive editor of The Economist and editor of The Word in 2017, Daniel Franklin presenting a brief review of the world in 2016, while a forecast for 2017 followed.

Daniel Franklin initially welcomed on stage Francis Fukuyama, an internationally renowned professor and author, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the opposition leader and president of the New Democracy party and Dimitris Papadimitriou, Minister of Economy and Development.

Thereinafter invited the Dean of ALBA Graduate Business School Professor Konstantinos Axarloglou and the COO of Henley & Partners Juerg Steffen to join him for a lively discussion "with the business and academia." Host and speakers commented with their own way on major international and economic developments of our country.

"We live in a time of unrest. New technologies disrupt the way we communicate, do business and travel.  We already live in times of self-driving cars and popular car rental, as opposed to car ownership," stated during the discussion the Dean of ALBA and Professor of International Business and Management, Konstantinos Axarloglou. He also indicated that globalization and the free flow of information through the Internet rapidly magnifies the impact of these technologies, making Today completely different from  Tomorrow." Therefore, we should no longer focus on learning from past. Instead, we must all develop the necessary skills (e.g. speed, adaptability, innovation, etc.) in order to address the effects of the "disruptive technologies" and thus "learn how to learn".
